Beginner piano pieces free download

241

There are many different piano methods for beginners. Each method has its advantages. The main goal is for a child to learn how to read music, have a proper hand positions, and be able to learn pieces mostly on their own with a help from a teacher.

My mother was a piano teacher for over 50 years. She always told me that you can use whatever method you like with the beginners. The result will be equally good as long as a student practices. She used multiple piano methods depending on her student’s needs.

I am partial to starting children with a mix of piano pieces from various methods. The complete beginner pieces I use currently are based on well-known nursery rhymes and children’s songs. The under laying principals of these pieces are based on the Russian piano method, where you start playing with one finger first.

I decided to provide a beginner piano pieces free download here as a pdf file. Feel free to use it. If you find these pieces useful please share this post on your social media for other piano teachers.

These first eight piano pieces take about two to three months to learn. I also added a manuscript paper for the convenience.

I encourage my students to color the drawings and make them more personal.

You can read my detailed piano lesson plans for beginners here.

In my first lesson, I start with just using the second finger (curved) non-legato. With this approach you can focus on a proper hand position and reading the notes from the very start of the lessons. As soon as a student is able to play well with their second finger I add the third finger.

For the first two to four months my students read and write notes only in the treble clef. I incorporate bass clef once a student is comfortable with the treble clef.

Here you can find the next sixth beginner piano pieces free download. Feel free to use it. If you find these pieces useful please share this post on your social media for other piano teachers.

These next seven pieces take another two to three months to learn.
