Our client is seeking a talented and innovative Lead Audio Engineer to join their award-winning team, crafting immersive audio experiences for cutting-edge virtual reality projects. Based in our vibrant Richmond, Virginia studio, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and mixing of all audio assets, ensuring a cohesive and high-fidelity soundscape that enhances player immersion. This role requires a deep understanding of spatial audio technologies, real-time audio engines (e.g., Wwise, FMOD), and digital audio workstations. You will collaborate closely with game designers, programmers, and artists to bring virtual worlds to life through sound. The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio showcasing creative sound design and technical audio engineering skills, coupled with leadership experience.
Responsibilities: Lead the audio team in the conceptualization, design, and implementation of all VR audio. Develop and implement innovative spatial audio solutions for immersive VR environments. Create, edit, and mix high-quality sound effects, ambient audio, and music. Integrate audio assets into the game engine using middleware like Wwise or FMOD. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure audio aligns with gameplay and narrative objectives. Define audio style guides and ensure technical and artistic consistency. Troubleshoot and optimize audio performance to meet project deadlines and technical requirements. Mentor junior audio engineers and provide constructive feedback. Manage audio-related bugs and ensure timely resolution. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in VR audio and game development.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Music Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in game audio development, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role. Proven experience with VR audio technologies and spatial audio implementation. Expertise in industry-standard DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Reaper) and audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD). Strong understanding of game development pipelines and engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity). Excellent sound design, mixing, and mastering skills. Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Lua) is a plus. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to manage multiple audio tasks and priorities effectively. A portfolio showcasing exceptional VR audio work is required. This position is based in our studio in Richmond, Virginia and requires full-time presence.
