As a Senior Sound Designer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, creating, and implementing all aspects of the game’s audio, including sound effects, music integration, environmental ambiances, and voice-over direction. You will work closely with game designers, programmers, and artists to ensure that the audio perfectly complements the gameplay, enhances player immersion, and conveys the intended emotional tone. Your expertise will span the entire audio pipeline, from initial sound sourcing and recording to final mixing and implementation within the game engine.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong portfolio demonstrating a deep understanding of game audio principles and a proven ability to deliver high-quality, impactful soundscapes. You should be proficient with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Reaper, or Cubase, as well as game audio middleware like Wwise or FMOD. Experience with audio implementation within game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) is essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team are paramount. You should have a keen ear for detail, a creative flair, and a passion for video games.
Key Responsibilities: Design, create, and implement high-quality sound effects for gameplay actions, environments, and user interfaces. Develop and integrate music, dynamic scoring, and ambient soundscapes to enhance atmosphere and immersion. Record, edit, and process voice-over performances, working with actors and directors. Implement audio assets using game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD). Collaborate with game designers and programmers to define audio requirements and integrate audio seamlessly into gameplay. Mix audio elements to ensure clarity, balance, and impact across various platforms and speaker configurations. Troubleshoot audio issues and optimize audio performance within the game. Contribute to the overall audio vision and direction of the project. Stay up-to-date with the latest audio technologies, techniques, and industry trends. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior sound designers. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Music Technology, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of professional experience in game sound design, with a significant contribution to at least 2 shipped titles. Proficiency with DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Reaper, Logic Pro) and audio editing software. Experience with game audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD) is required. Experience implementing audio in game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity). Strong understanding of audio principles, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and mixing techniques.
