Essential Job Duties:
North Carolina State University welcomes applications for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in film and/or media studies of the Korean peninsula and/or the diaspora.

The faculty position will have a joint appointment in the Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC), therefore the candidate must demonstrate a capacity to teach beginning, intermediate and advanced level of Korean language and culture courses.

The appointment in Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences requires that the candidate have an interdisciplinary orientation, as it will be based in one of the following programs: Arts Studies; International Studies; Science, Technology and Society; or Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

In addition to filmmaking and/or videography production, you would also have a strong fine arts background and/or formal training in photography, illustration, painting, drawing, or installation art. The standard teaching load will be four courses per academic year, with two each in the IHSS and WLC departments. Other responsibilities include research, publication, and service.

Candidates must have successfully defended their Ph. D. by May 2027.

Other Work/Responsibilities:
Other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Requires a doctoral degree in the field of instruction. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications:
• Demonstrated skills in teaching and facilitating research with a diverse cross-section of students.
• Proven ability to offer substantial course content in person and online.
• Commitment to an active research agenda.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary subject matter.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching at the university level
• Doctoral degree in East Asian Studies or Film Studies
