The Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B)
invites applications for a Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty
Position in Digital Media, Behavior Change, & Public
Health in the Department of Applied Health
Science.
The SPH -B seeks individuals who will contribute to academic
excellence in research, teaching, and service in support of the
Department of Applied Health Science’s mission to prevent disease
and promote the health and well-being of individuals, families, and
communities. This 10-month appointment would ideally start
August 1, 2027, although an earlier or later start date is
negotiable. Applications received by 11/1/2026 will receive
full priority consideration, and applications will be accepted
until the position is filled.
Responsibilities: Tenured/Tenure-track faculty are expected
to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of
the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research
portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural
research funding to conduct cutting-edge research in modern public
health science both as a corresponding principal investigator and a
collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring students at the
undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department
chairperson; and actively providing service internally to the
department, school and university and externally to the profession
and/or the community. Areas of interest include examining how
social media, digital environments, and emerging technologies
influence health behaviors and outcomes among youth and young
adults, as well as developing and evaluating digital interventions
to prevent or address health risks and conditions such as tobacco
use, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity, and injury. Related
areas of interest may include digital health, health communication,
behavior change, and technology-enabled approaches to promoting
health and well-being.

Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctorate degree in
public health, behavioral or social science, health
communication, psychology, health informatics, or a closely
related field from an accredited institution. Candidates must have
teaching experience at the graduate or professional level.
Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and
the ability to work cooperatively and congenially across
disciplines are required. Leadership skills and vision for
enhancing the academic components of an interdisciplinary
department are essential. Candidates for associate and full
professor positions must also demonstrate a record of scholarly
achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including
extramurally funded research as a corresponding principal
investigator, current funding or strong potential to secure
external funding, and experience leading sizeable research
initiatives. This position is part of Indiana University
Bloomington’s interdisciplinary Shaping Health Through Media:
Trauma, Technology, and Society faculty cluster, which brings
together scholars across public health, media and communication,
psychological and behavioral sciences, education, and technology.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop
interdisciplinary collaborations focused on understanding how media
and emerging technologies shape health and well-being and how these
environments can be leveraged to improve health outcomes.
