Description
The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University seeks a
full-time, ranked faculty member in Music for New Media (MFN)
effective July 1, 2027. The new faculty member will teach and
recruit students for the BM in Music for New Media and MM in Film
and Game Scoring degree programs, which prepare students for
careers at the intersection of music, technology, and visual
storytelling across film, television, and games. Candidates should
demonstrate an active professional record in media composition,
strong compositional praxis, fluency with modern scoring
technologies and virtual orchestration. The successful candidate
will help shape the programs’ response to emerging technologies,
including artificial intelligence, and prepare students to work
creatively, critically, and ethically with new tools and methods
that are transforming composition, production, collaboration, and
the broader media industries. Experience with interactive scoring,
game engines, and audio middleware is highly desirable, but not
required.
The new faculty member will teach MFN courses, conduct applied
composition lessons, and advise advanced students on capstone
projects. MFN faculty share oversight of the studios and contribute
to departmental operations, including program administration and
managing hardware and software tools. Peabody faculty contribute to
curriculum, program development, and institutional improvement
through committee work. Faculty are also expected to maintain an
active profile in scholarship, composition, or performance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should document experience as a
professional composer for film, television, and interactive media
such as video games. The position requires demonstrated proficiency
with software commonly used in professional scoring for picture
(linear/narrative and interactive). The candidate should also have
post-secondary teaching experience. Faculty must demonstrate
training in music composition, music technology, film and media, or
a related field. A graduate degree is strongly preferred.
• The expected academic base salary range for an Assistant
Professor is 65,000 to 75,000.
• The expected academic base salary range for an Associate
Professor is 75,000 to 85,000.
• The expected academic base salary range for a Professor is
85,000 to 95,000.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas,
laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving
community contact requires documentation of immune status against
Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella
(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the
Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include
documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella
vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory
testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are
ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for
those candidates who provide results of blood tests or immunization
