The NYU College of Dentistry, Department of General Dentistry and Comprehensive Care, is seeking three full-time, five-day clinical faculty members to join its faculty. The Department is responsible for the education and clinical development of predoctoral dental students across all four years of the curriculum (D1–D4), with a focus on dental anatomy, cariology, operative and aesthetic dentistry, communication skills, community-based dentistry, and comprehensive patient care.

An important goal of the Department is to prepare students to provide comprehensive dental care in a modern group practice environment. Students throughout all four years of the predoctoral program are integrated into group practices, where they provide patient care under the guidance and supervision of group practice directors and clinical faculty.

We are seeking Clinical (non-tenure) Track Faculty with credentials and teaching experience in general dentistry and comprehensive care. Successful candidates will contribute to the education and development of predoctoral students through teaching in clinical and simulation settings, participation in the University community, and engagement in scholarly and professional activities.

Responsibilities will include approximately 20% teaching foundational clinical skills through state-of-the-art simulation technology and hands-on instruction in preparation for patient care, 60% supervision of students providing clinical care , and 20% professional development and scholarly activity . Faculty will be expected to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment while helping students develop the clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgment necessary for successful dental practice.

Key responsibilities include:
• Instruct predoctoral dental students in preclinical simulation laboratory courses
• Provide direct chairside instruction and evaluation of student performance
• Assess student competency through practical examinations and skill evaluations
• Mentor students in developing proper ergonomics, infection control, and clinical techniques
• Participate in curriculum development and educational innovation initiatives
• Collaborate with faculty colleagues in interdisciplinary education
• Contribute to faculty meetings, committees, and institutional service
• Other related duties as required

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position for the rank of Clinical Instructor is $90K – $130K & for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor is $100K – $150K. Required Qualifications
• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience in general dentistry
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities
• Proficiency in dental terminology and clinical documentation
• Understanding of infection control protocols and safety procedures
• Knowledge of dental materials and their application

Successful candidates should demonstrate patience and enthusiasm for working with students, a professional demeanor, strong ethical standards, and the ability to provide constructive feedback and mentorship. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, as well as a collaborative approach to team-based education. Prior teaching experience in dental education, whether formal or informal, is preferred. Experience with simulation-based learning or virtual reality training, familiarity with competency-based education models, and knowledge of digital dentistry and CAD/CAM systems are also desirable. Proficiency with educational technology platforms and an interest in curriculum innovation and educational research are encouraged.

New York State dental licensure is required for this position, and candidates must be eligible for institutional employment authorization. Appointment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and credential verification.

The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods during laboratory instruction, perform fine motor activities necessary for supervising clinical procedures, and maintain sufficient visual acuity for detailed clinical work and instruction. Faculty must be able to move throughout simulation laboratory spaces and dental clinics as needed to support student learning and clinical activities.

Faculty are expected to work during scheduled laboratory and clinical sessions and be available for student consultation and office hours as appropriate. Responsibilities also include participation in faculty meetings and institutional events, with potential evening or weekend commitments associated with special programs or departmental activities.
