We’re looking for a composer to create an original score for a documentary centered around Niagara Falls, New York — its history, decline as a city, and the people and stories that remain.
We are not looking for wall-to-wall music. The score would primarily be used during:
– Opening and closing sequences
– B-roll and establishing shots
– Archival/history sequences
– Voiceover-driven intros and transitions
– Select emotional or atmospheric moments
Most interviews and longer segments featuring our main character will remain relatively natural and unscored, so the music needs to be used intentionally rather than constantly.
The overall tone of the film is cinematic, reflective, atmospheric, and at times melancholic — dealing with the contrast between Niagara Falls as a world-famous destination and the decline of the city surrounding it. There are also moments of nostalgia, beauty, tension, and hope, so we want a composer who can develop a musical identity for the film rather than simply placing generic background music underneath footage.
We’re looking for someone comfortable scoring directly to picture and collaborating on where music should enter, build, resolve, or stay out entirely.
Please send examples of previous film, documentary, cinematic, or narrative scoring work. Work demonstrating restraint, atmosphere, and emotional storytelling is especially relevant.
Please also include your typical pricing structure and whether you handle final stems/mixes for the score.
