0

The Department of Entomology at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Integrative Computational Biology, broadly defined, with a focus on Arthropods.

We seek a candidate who will apply artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and/or other related approaches to address basic and/or applied biological questions using arthropods. Potential areas of emphasis include aquatic ecosystems, arthropod vectors of disease, behavior, biodiversity, chemical ecology, climate change, ecological forecasting, genetics and genomics, neurobiology, systematics, and other areas where computational approaches can advance discovery. Candidates whose research is primarily computational, and/or those who integrate computational techniques with field, experimental, or other approaches, are welcome to apply.

The hired individual will be expected to build a nationally and internationally recognized research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service.

The individual will join a supportive Department with broad strengths in basic and applied ecology, genetics, genomics, evolutionary biology, biodiversity and systematics, pollinator science, arthropod vectors of disease, and integrated pest management. The Department is jointly affiliated with the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and there are strong opportunities for interdisciplinary work across the university. The candidate is expected to interact with the Artificial Intelligence Institute of Maryland, and/or other computational units on campus. Our strategic location in the greater Washington, D.C. region provides opportunities for interaction with a plethora of institutions including the NIH, USDA, the Smithsonian Institution, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and regional research institutions. College Park also provides access to the cultural, scientific, policy, and recreational resources of the D.C. metropolitan area, Chesapeake Bay, Appalachian region, Atlantic coast, and surrounding parks and natural areas, giving many opportunities for diverse recreational activities.

Required Application Materials:
• Cover letter describing qualifications and fit for the position
• Curriculum Vitae
• Research statement
