In addition to academic rigor, which is a hallmark of the College of Education, the Middle, Secondary, and P12 Department is committed to partnerships with regional school systems, which allows us to provide our students with intensive levels of field and clinical experience in public school classrooms. UNG’s MSP12 graduates are highly regarded by regional school districts because of the extensive field and clinical experiences they complete as part of their program requirements. Partnerships are designed to create environments that support professional development, personal growth, and academic excellence in the context of service to our students, colleagues, institution, community, and discipline. Faculty in the COE are expected to model professional and personal integrity, good communication skills, passion for teaching, and collaborative support and care of the communities we serve.
Job Summary
The University of North Georgia’s Middle, Secondary, and P12 (MSP12) Department is seeking applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor beginning Fall 2027. We are seeking faculty with expertise in Literacy Education for grades 6-12. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position. Summer teaching is possible but not guaranteed.

Responsibilities
• The faculty member is expected to teach specified courses, prepare course materials, provide support and guidance to students through advising, foster professional relationships with public school partners, maintain records pertinent to accreditation, and participate in collaborative meetings with faculty and leadership relative to programmatic decisions and improvements. Commitment to a collaborative curriculum development model is expected.
General faculty responsibilities in the department include the following:
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses face-to-face, hybrid or online;
• Advise students;
• Maintain active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization;
• Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
• Maintain an on-campus presence through participation in classes, meetings, and events; and
• Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of current national and state standards;
• Knowledge of effective and innovative teaching practices;
• Strong written and oral professional communication skills; and
• Ability to work collegially with other members of the faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Required Qualifications
• Doctorate in Secondary Literacy Education, or a closely related field is required.
• Three year’s teaching experience at the secondary level (grades 6-12).
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching Literacy courses at the college level;
• Experience in using and modeling technology in educational settings;
• Successful experience teaching in online environments;
• Commitment to being a collaborative team member;
• Record of scholarly activity; and
Expertise in the following areas:
• Literacy at the secondary education level,
• Development of high-quality digital learning experiences, and
• Inclusion of AI and other emerging technology tools as instructional tools.
