Description
The Department of History at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin Fall of the academic year 2027-28. We seek a historian specializing in the modern history of science, technology, and medicine. The search committee will consider applicants who specialize in any scientific practice in any part of the world since 1600. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate must be willing and able to teach in the core curriculum (i.e. “Great Ideas in Science”).
Opportunities for collaboration and engagement include the new History+Computer Science major; the History and Philosophy of Science Certificate Program; the Health and Society major; the Humanities, Health and Medicine graduate program; the Dell Medical School; and the Science, Technology, and Environment track in the International Relations and Global Studies major.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed all the requirements for the Ph. D. by time of appointment, or they must expect to obtain the Ph. D. within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. We require graduate training in conducting historical research and a Ph. D. in History; the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine; Science and Technology Studies; or a related field.
Preferred qualifications include research and teaching records that will complement one or more of the department’s strengths including: African History, Asian History, British History, Digital Humanities, Latin American History, U.S. History, and related fields.
