About the position

Norfolk Southern is hiring currently certified Train Conductors with prior railroad conductor experience for freight train operations at various locations. The position requires an active FRA conductor certification and includes a short Norfolk Southern familiarization program at a Training Center rather than full conductor training.

This is a seniority-based position. Conductors may work from an extra board and fill assignments according to operational needs and seniority. Schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and on-call assignments. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather and around moving trains, railcars, locomotives, and other equipment. Assignments may require time away from home.

Certified conductors may qualify for a signing bonus of up to $50,000, depending on the hiring location. Employees who relocate to accept a position at a priority location may receive an additional $25,000 relocation bonus, subject to the stated payment timelines and incentive-agreement terms. The posting also describes a job-for-life commitment for union employees, on-the-job training pay, insurance and retirement benefits, and vacation based on years of service.
