Main Purpose of Job
To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf students.rn
POSITION DUTIES
Assessrnand teach Deaf students including the implementation of Maryland’s staternstandards and the development of IEPs. Create and maintain a classroomrnconducive to learning. Prepare andrnmaintain weekly solid lesson plans based on student assessments and data, andrnteach lessons using the best practices of bilingual pedagogy and differentiatedrninstruction. Design and make materialsrnto facilitate student learning. Collectrndata and follow individualized planning.rnDevelop IEPs and write quarterly progress reports; apply IEPrnaccommodations and supplementary aids in teaching and assessments. Maintain a grade book, portfolios, unitrnplans, daily attendance, and emergency classroom lesson plans. Utilizerneffective classroom management for optimal learning including managing studentrnbehavior; model appropriate behavior and promote self-control.rn
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’srndegree required.rnrnrnCandidates must be eligible to apply for or bernwilling to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Educationrnwithin a prescribed amount of time.rnFluency in American Sign Language and written English required. Knowledge of the Deaf culture, DeafrnEducation, students with additional disabilities and ability to teach studentsrnon different levels and with varying educational and language acquisitionrnbackgrounds is required.rn

BENEFITS
rnContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.rnLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.rnrn
