POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Languages and Cultures Department invites applications for Instructor (Senior Lecturer) positions in French to begin as early as the fall of 2026. The anticipated teaching load is four courses per semester. The successful candidate should have a native or near-native command of French as well as English, and a demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate instruction.
Candidates should be able to teach French across all levels of proficiency. They should have expertise in foreign language pedagogy, second language acquisition, literature, cultural studies, or a related field. The successful candidates will be expected to support the departmental and institutional educational mission.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Prepare for and teach assigned courses
• Assess student performance
• Assist students outside of class
• Contribute to the assessment of student learning outcomes
• Design and develop courses, as assigned
• Assist with the management of the study abroad programs
• Participate in and contribute to governance and management of the department, programs, courses, school-level activities, yard-wide activities, as assigned
These are on-site, 10-month compensation model, excepted service federal positions with a 3-year renewable (non-tenure-track) appointment. These positions include full federal benefits and a highly competitive salary within the AD-01 payscale, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Salary Details:

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Postgraduate degree completed by June 2026 (Master’s or higher)
• 1 year of experience teaching in French (beginning through advanced)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Postgraduate degree (M.A., Ph.D, or Ed.D. in French or a related field).
• Native or near-native proficiency in French.
• 2+ years of experience teaching college-level courses in French (beginning through advanced)
• Native or near-native proficiency in any other language taught in the department (Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Spanish, Russian).
• Extensive practical experience in French in military, diplomatic, policy, or similar contexts.
FINAL SELECTION FOR POSITION WILL BASED ON THE FOLLOWING ASSESSMENTS:
• Preliminary online interview (selected candidates)
• On campus interviews (finalists)
• Teaching Demonstration on campus (finalists)
• Executive level interview (finalists)
