Our client, a prestigious performing arts institution, is seeking an inspiring and accomplished Lead Orchestral Conductor to direct its renowned symphony orchestra in Baltimore, Maryland, US . This leadership position requires an individual with exceptional musical artistry, profound interpretive skills, and a proven ability to engage musicians and audiences alike. You will be responsible for selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals and performances, and shaping the artistic vision of the orchestra for the upcoming seasons. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of diverse musical genres, a passion for artistic excellence, and strong leadership qualities to foster a collaborative and high-achieving environment.

Responsibilities: Confer with artistic directors and management to plan and program concert seasons. Lead rehearsals with precision and musical insight, inspiring musicians to achieve their best performance. Conduct all major orchestral concerts, symposia, and special events with artistic integrity and dynamic energy. Serve as the primary artistic voice of the orchestra, guiding its musical direction and educational outreach initiatives. Engage with audiences through pre-concert talks, interviews, and community events to foster a deeper appreciation for classical music. Collaborate with guest artists, composers, and other cultural organizations to enrich the orchestra’s programming. Provide mentorship and artistic guidance to resident conductors and musicians. Uphold the highest standards of musical performance and artistic integrity.
Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in conducting, music performance, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of professional conducting experience with recognized orchestras. Demonstrated mastery of orchestral repertoire across various periods and styles. Exceptional interpretive abilities and a clear, compelling musical vision. Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate large ensembles. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with musicians, staff, and the community. A deep commitment to music education and community engagement. Experience in programming and repertoire selection. International conducting experience is a significant plus.
