You will be responsible for leading the orchestra’s artistic vision, selecting repertoire, and conducting a diverse range of performances, including classical masterworks, contemporary compositions, and special engagements. Key Responsibilities: Lead the orchestra in rehearsals and performances throughout the season. Select and program a diverse and engaging repertoire that challenges and inspires musicians and audiences. Interpret musical scores with clarity, passion, and technical precision. Motivate and guide musicians to achieve the highest level of performance. Collaborate with orchestra management, musicians’ committee, and artistic staff. Develop and implement educational programs and community outreach initiatives. Represent the orchestra at public events, fundraising activities, and media engagements. Nurture and develop relationships with guest artists, composers, and conductors. Contribute to the long-term artistic planning and strategic direction of the organization. Qualifications: Extensive conducting experience with professional orchestras, evidenced by a significant performance history. A distinguished international reputation or exceptional regional acclaim. Master’s degree or higher in Music Performance, Conducting, or a related field. Profound knowledge of the orchestral repertoire spanning from Baroque to contemporary periods. Exceptional musicality, interpretive depth, and technical conducting skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Proven ability to inspire and unify an ensemble. Experience in repertoire selection and artistic planning. Understanding of orchestral operations and musicians’ union agreements is beneficial. Availability for frequent travel and irregular working hours, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by performance schedules. This hybrid role in Washington, D.C., US offers a blend of impactful in-person conducting and remote strategic planning, ensuring flexibility while maintaining artistic direction.
