Purpose of Position

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Voice, effective August 2027. This is a full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4.

The primary responsibilities will include teaching applied musical theatre and classical voice. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department’s curriculum as appropriate and consistent with experience and specialization. Additionally, the candidate will support the department’s vocal productions, including cabaret, musical theatre, opera, oratorio, and voice recitals, in collaboration with the faculty.

We seek a candidate with a terminal degree in a relevant field (Theatre or Music), or a master’s degree in a relevant field, combined with significant professional experience in musical theatre and classical vocal performance; treble voice preferred. Undergraduate teaching experience across a range of vocal techniques and styles is highly valued. Additional classroom teaching experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to departmental productions through active collaboration with faculty, staff, and students throughout the creative process.

Salary ranges from $60,000 to $75,000 commensurate with Education and Experience.
