General Job Description:
Syracuse Stage seeks a Music Director for musical theatre performing arts summer camps running four weeks, July 7th through August 1st, Monday through Friday for children grades 3-8. Class hours are from 9-3. The Music Director will work directly with Syracuse Stage’s Education Director, Lead Teaching Arist, and a small team of college level teaching artists and part time artists to facilitate age-appropriate arts programs in musical theatre, acting, dance, design, and more. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Music Director with advanced piano accompaniment skills who is confident in leading arts and performing-arts themed curriculum, teaching music, developing material for performance, managing a classroom of children, and creating a supportive and fun environment where young people can explore, connect, and grow.
### Specific Responsibilities:
1. Teach basic vocal technique and music classes.
2. Lead vocal warmups.
3. Teach and rehearse music for the end-of-camp showcase.
4. Coach solo and group singing.
5. Music direct the end-of-camp production.
6. Play piano for the end-of-camp production.
7. Assist with selection and arrangement of age-appropriate music for elementary and middle school campers.
8. Collaborate with the lead teaching artist and choreographer to devise and rehearse the final performance.
9. Create a supportive and fun environment for students of all levels.
