Our client, a cutting-edge independent film studio located in the vibrant arts scene of Chicago, Illinois, US , is seeking an exceptionally talented Senior Film Scoring Composer and Music Producer. This role is integral to crafting the emotional landscape and narrative impact of our upcoming film projects. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of orchestral, electronic, and hybrid music composition, with a proven track record of delivering critically acclaimed film scores. You will collaborate closely with directors and producers to translate visual storytelling into compelling musical themes, underscoring, and soundscapes.

Key Responsibilities:
Compose original musical scores for feature films, documentaries, and short films, adhering to directorial vision and narrative requirements. Develop thematic material, motifs, and character-specific music that enhances the emotional resonance of each project. Produce, record, mix, and master all musical elements, utilizing state-of-the-art recording techniques and equipment. Collaborate closely with directors, producers, editors, and sound designers throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production phases. Adapt musical compositions based on feedback and edits, ensuring seamless integration with picture. Manage music budgets and timelines effectively, delivering high-quality work on schedule. Stay current with advancements in music technology, production software, and digital audio workstations (DAWs). Explore and implement innovative musical approaches and sonic textures to create unique auditory experiences. Negotiate contracts and manage rights and royalties for original compositions. Build and maintain strong relationships with talent agencies, music supervisors, and other industry professionals. Potentially oversee the work of assistant composers or arrangers as needed for larger projects.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Music Composition, Film Scoring, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of 8 years of professional experience as a film scoring composer and music producer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating work on narrative films. Exceptional compositional skills across various genres and styles, with a demonstrated ability to create emotionally impactful and memorable scores. Proficiency in industry-standard DAWs (e.g., Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X) and virtual instrument libraries. Strong understanding of music theory, orchestration, and counterpoint. Experience with live recording sessions, including conducting or directing musicians. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interpret and execute creative direction. A deep appreciation for cinema and the power of music in storytelling. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. A keen ear for sound design and audio post-production integration.
