Handel’s Messiah, Royal Albert Hall
Handel’s Messiah, Royal Albert Hall
Joe Lloyd
George Frideric Handel may have embraced England, but England embraced his music. MessiahAn oratorio, adapting passages from the King James Bible, is one of his greatest achievements. First performed in 1741, it has become a Christmas ritual, the “Hallelujah Chorus” is one of the most popular classical music in the country.
For this traditional annual performance, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia Chorus under Eduardo Strausser are joined by soprano Ella Taylor, mezzo-soprano Angarad Liden, tenor Zwakel Tshabalala and bass William Thomas. Very popular, this is done twice in one day.
This is a chance to see the Christmas classic at its best, and perhaps the highlight of the 2022 Royal Albert Hall.
